So, what's all this about?
Put in it's most basic terms.. every Weyr meets the point where it needs new members. Sometimes it's for a Hatching. Sometimes it's because post volume is drifting off. Sometimes it's because you desperately need characters of a certain type.
When that happens, you can put ads out, but most Weyrs main sources of plugging are going to other Weyrs and asking for players there.
This however has several problems.
In a busy Weyr the BoD may not have time to belong to many other Weyrs. This should reflect well on the Weyr rather than badly as it shpws how much work the BoD are prepared to put into it. However it gives a disadvantage in getting the word out.
If you aren't interested in joining another Weyr, the constant plugs can get a touch annoying after a while ;-)
When you do want to find another Weyr, it turns out of course that no one has been plugging on any of the lists you happen to be on for ages.
If you don't belong to any Weyrs then how do you choose which one to join? There's an awful lot of dead Weyrs out there that never get mail at all... how can you tell which ones are still alive just by searching through Yahoo?
So, every problem has a solution. Through WeyrPlug an email list has been established where you can reach people who are actually looking for Weyrs and people who are looking for Weyrs can come, knowing they will get the laest news of games - so the one they try won't have died out several months previously. So.. everybody benefits.
