You mean there isn't just the mail? No, indeed. Yahoo! Groups may be buggy at times but it does offer some interesting features which I intend to use.
Bookmarks:- These can and will be used for making permanant notes of where a game is. So long to the days of wanting to join one and being unable to because you'd forgotten the URL. The other use is a less obvious one. You remember first setting up your game? The decisions? Which hosting provider for your list, which hosting provider for your site, where to advertise where to find out... ah the work of it all... Now it's time to share the knowledge if you will. Give other listowners a hand, and they can do the same for you. Also to be used for other game resources - if you have an interesting site, pop it in here!
Database:- I have very rarely seen this put to any good use on Yahoo! Groups.. but it is being used here. If you're looking for a game with particular features - one based on something in particular perhaps, or that wants certain types of characters - then fill your details and email address in there, and you can even go No Mail after that <smiles> People trying to find people like you need only to go down to the database to do so. This feature is accessable to members only to prevent possible address harvesting by spammers.
Files:- You can tell people how good your list is, but here you have the opportunity to prove it. Upload banners, pictures, maps, and profiles - anything you're particularly proud of to show what standard your game can reach. Also can be used by people looking for a game to accept unusual characters - upload your profile for it to the appropiate folder, then wait for someone to contact you and say they can take that profile. And if games upload their persona forms into the appropiate folder, this will help people who need one before they apply.
Polls:- I have every intention to use these regularly for various reasons. Check out the Polls and see which ones are running at present.
Chat:- If there is enough interest shown, I may run a regular organised chat session using the chatroom where people can discuss game issues and again.. plug away ;-) It's also open at all other times of course so if you want to arrange to meet up with people in there at a particular time... you go right ahead.
Bet you never knew YahooGroups could be used in so many ways ;-) So... come! Use it!
